Activity supported:Interdisciplinary, collaborative research involving biologists together with scientists from other disciplines such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science and engineering in projects concerning the complex mechanisms underlying biological functions.
Eligibility:Program grants are for independent scientists at all stages of their careers. This grant is available to teams of scientists (normally 2-4) from different countries and different disciplines. The research teams must be international. The principal applicant must be from one of the member countries. However, other participating scientists and laboratories may be situated anywhere in the world. Eligible Activities:The aim of the HFSP is to support basic research focused on complex mechanisms of living organisms. To stimulate novel, daring ideas and innovative approaches, preliminary results are not required in research grant applications. Applicants are expected to develop new lines of research through the collaboration; projects must be distinct from applicants' other research funded by other sources.
Funding:Awards are made for a maximum of three years to provide for costs of equipment, materials and supplies, salaries for assistants and travel. The current maximum funding for Program Grants is USD$450,000 per year.

Application Deadline:The 2007 call for Letters of Intent is now closed. It is expected that the next call will be announced in December 2006 with submissions in March 2007.
